OCTOBER 30 2016:

Seismicity  was similar as in September 2016. Tremor signals were fluctuating with a sudden high  on October 24- 26: anbut decreased again to  low values until October 30. MODVOLC thermal alerts however show still a significant heat signature on top of all Canary ilslands.

October 26 was also the day, when two major quakes have again shaken  the region of the Sibillini mount  in Central  Italy. Another  but very deep 5,8 magnitude seaquake was noticed also in the volcanic active Thyrennian Sea on October 28 .

And just during this update ESMC reported, that another,  even stronger M 6.6. earthquake again hit the Sibillini region. still followed by stronger afterquakes:

Due to Italian geologist, the region is a subduction zone , where the European plate meets the African one. Indeed, both plates show activities as -so far as I know- never before in recorded seismic history  (which is not a long time and not more than 100 years)
The epicenter region is sinking with an unknown rate while- the volcanic field of the Campi fleigri  had been lifted up for 8 cm during 2012 and 13.

Also on October 30- a major 3,9 quake shook the northeast of Tenerifa . It was the strongest so far in 2016 and and was- due to the IGN-  felt on the island:

One microquake was measured  with M 1.8 n September 23 near Adeje Tenerife
and set with a depth of 2 km a new mark beeing the lowest measured since the third activity phase began on December 23 2013.

Most of the microquakes occured on the faultline between Teneriffe and Gran Canaria  in a depth of 11- 60 km- likely part of a wider scaled tectonic activity possibly related  the effect of changes in the temperature of the magma that has accumulated  in wider  parts of the Atlantic. This effect also might be the casue of a stronger quake on a fault line North of the Azores on October 01:

SEPTEMBER 15- 2016:

Microquake activity was rather low throughout August and September 2016 with less quakes near the hot spot at el Hierro and mainly rather tectonic activities around  Teneriffe and Gran Canaria.

On the other side, Tremor activity was rather high on all islands in the first half of August,  decreased then towards the end of August 2016 and increased again during the first half of September:

I cannot really jugde that, but the stronger tremor  activity might have to do with structures breaking up by wide range tectonic movements and  water surging into the magma reservoirs.

Comparing other hot spots , there was a significant increase on Hawaii, as well as in the  Taupo caldera on white island/ new zealand. The Yellowstone caldera clamed down in 2016 and was almost quite during the past three month.  When checking the live webcam. to my surprise, there is another strong increase in geysir activity visible on September 15 2016 , which was as strong as throughout 2015.

we had no real significant proton event on 2016. But electron accumulation is still high, and drops only very slowly after the many SPEs those happened between 2012 and 2015and  fluctuates currently still  between some hundred and more than 30.000 pfu.

JULY 2016:

The microquake activity on an around El Hierro and around the sea mount between Tenerife and Gran Canaria was going on on low pace in  July 2016.

There was am extraordinary M 3.9 quake on July 10. Its Epicenter was near Vega de San Mateo on the northern part of Gran Canaria in a depth of 43km which is near the transit of the earth crust to  the Earth mantle. There were no reports about any surface damages nor that inhabitants had really felt that quake.

I can`t say whether the extraordinary strong quake near the Azores on July is anyway related to magmatic movements within the Canary Caldera.

AUGUST 01 2016:

MIcroquake activity has again a bit increased at begin of August 2016. There was one near El PInar in just 6 km depth and tremor signals indicate that there is magma acitive .

Tremor signals:

Tremors signals were higher in July 2016 on all islands including La Palma. Tremors however  are still realatively strongest near Tenerife and Gran Canaria .
But along with a microquake in just 6 km depth in El PInar on July ( the lowest there so far since begin opf the 3 activity phase in Decem,2013) Tremor signals are almost highest there since then at time of this u

MAY 29-2016: CALDERA CLOSE TO ERUPTION?

Magma has reached a level of around 4 km below sealevel within the caldera -mainly between Teneriffe and Gran Canaria and is still on the rise.
( I dould not copy some previous events with several magmatic quakes from a depth of 4 km. But the latest event list shows even that magma rose in one wek 1 km higer and is therefore rapidly further rising. I also don`t want to paint something morre black as it is, but all these data  show that we might NOW REALLY be shortly before a larger surface eruption, that-  as I personally mean- could become a catastrophic event:

MAY 10-2016:

At begin of May 2016, a new serial of  earthquakes from shallow depth occured between Teneriffe an Gran Canaria mainly near towards the eastern coast of Teneriffe.
The latest one just occured on the day of this update and  had a magnitude of M 3.3. IGN has not published the depth of this recent  quake , which is therefore still unknown:

The previous one on May 7 had a depth of just 3 km, which sets a new mark as the most shallow likely magmatic quake since begin of this 3 activity phase end of December 2014.

At all three low magnitude qaukes from 6, 9 and 3 km depth indicate something is going on there. Since solar SEPs ( proton events) have decreased significantly after the last 11 year sun spot maximum in 2013, also hotspot activity worldwide has decreased.

Proton events with their subsequent electron accumulations in the Earth`s magnetic field  charge the earth with lot of electric energy that is effective for month and even years  in different forms of activity , Though SEPs were much less in 2015 and even less in 2016 yet,  other types -socalled filament eruptions - still  eject mainly proton  charged material ( in DC definition  "negative" charged) from the Sun`s surface to the earth what each time leads to minor and stronger geomagnetic storms .

But there seems not to be an effect to volcanoes by these filament eruptions . However-.- activity on all important hot spot points globally also decreased since the earth got now first time since 3 years time slowly to cool down again .

Yellowstone, Etna, Sinabung , Kilauea have returned to normal activity and the water level in white island caldera on New Zealand dropped for two meters following the decrease in  global hot spot activity- so reports Brad Scott for geonet that monitors the volcanoes in the Southern Pacific and near Australia, "while the volcanoe is still  at unrest":

White Island Crater Lake level drops, unrest continues

While magmatic inflation leads logically to an equivalent subduction process elsewhere, expanding magma that once rose up from the mantle , while creating immense forces that inflates / lifts up entire landscapes,  islands or mountains cannot flow back again into the earth mantle and therefor deformations by magmatic inflation are  unlikely to receed again. However some contraction effects , when magma cools down near the surface can surely create/ leave   holes thoswe  particularly could  collapse .

El Hierro also does not show any sign to sink back to the level it was prior to the third activity phase beginning in end of December 2014 . With the main magmatic intrusion following soon after the island of El Hierro has been lifted up for about 2- 25 cm.Since February 2015 the magmatic intrusion continued with minor strength:

Its just: that I  don`t have the experience, to say what happens next and whether  these shallow quakes indicate such a minor collapse by colling donw magma or: that magma would still rise upofurther . So-I would strongly recommend to observe closely  the quake  activity then next time .

The (for me surprisingly) increase in quake activity  again at begin of May 2016 after month fo tranquility should be taken seriously.
